Chalking up another first in Philippine health care, the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) opened a Vascular Laboratory, Wound and Ostomy Care Clinic, tasked with providing patients with state-of the-art, high quality, cost-effective care in respect to both vascular diagnostics and acute and chronic wound management. The Clinic is the first and only unit of its kind in the country that offers the most advanced, integrated, and cost effective strategies for diagnosis and evaluation of vascular disorders, basic and advanced treatment of acute and chronic wound and care and protection of stoma and peristomal condition.
The Vascular Laboratory, Wound and Ostomy Care Clinic contains in one setting, the following advantages: multidisciplinary staff physicians, full-time certified wound and ostomy care specialist nurses full-time vascular technician and top of the line vascular diagnostic equipment. The clinic boasts of a well-trained medical staff and support group which utilizes the most up-to-date vascular diagnostic tools at par with the world’s best. It also aims to deliver an expedient treatment of acute and chronic wounds in relation to trauma, varying diseases and even vascular in nature.
In recent past decades, wound care has become an increasingly important aspect of patient care in all practice and specialties. Special kinds of wound need special therapies and the clinic is the only unit to provide specialized services such as intermittent pneumatic compressions for leg and edema and venous ulcers, vacuum assigned closure (VAC) for pressure ulcers, and angiogenic growth factor treatment and hyperbaric oxygen treatment for ischemic, non-surgical correctible wounds.
