The only diagnostic Virology Laboratory in the Philippines that performs viral culture from clinical specimens. It supports the transplantation program of the Institute by providing early and accurate diagnosis of CMV diseases and other atypical infections encountered among patients after organ transplantation.
  
A variety of methods are available in virology that employs immuno fluorescence and Enzyme Immuno Assay (EIA). These include virus isolation in cell culture; direct CMV detection in blood leukocytes; direct antigen detection of Legionela pneumophila and Pneumocystis carinii in clinical specimens; serologic antibody assays for dengue, chlamydial and amoebic infections; and Legionella EIA for urine specimens.
