The primary function of the division is to support the NKTI's organ transplant program in its clinical and research activities. It is heavily involved in histo - compatibility testing and other immunologic tests relevant to organ transplantation. As a secondary function the immunology laboratory performs assays required for diagnosis and disease monitoring of autoimmune, immunodeficiency, infectious and malignant disorders.

There are five (5) sections in the division, namely:

Cellular Immunology Laboratory
Flow Cytometry Unit
Immunochemistry Section
Molecular & Cytogenetics Laboratory
Tissue Typing Section

The division runs updated diagnostic techniques that are carefully considered so as not to compromise affordability and clinical relevance of the test.

The Immunology Laboratory allows fellows-in training in Immunology and allergy, Nephrology & Hematology access to its facilities for purposes of training and research
