The Hematology and Transfusion Medicine is a division that performs both diagnostic and screening tests for both patients and donors. It assists the government in providing continuing professional education and training to all medical and paramedical professionals in the various aspects of Hematology, Blood Bank, Serology and Voluntary Blood Donation. The division likewise, undertakes research support activities that will help advance the field of Transfusion Medicine in the country.

A quality assurance program is always maintained to ensure patient and donor total confidence. The division maintains a standard protocol for specimen collection, handling, and processing. All measuring devices and equipment are calibrated and properly maintained. It employs a systematic, documented quality control programs involving control samples, daily inspection of action limits and external comparison studies.

The division takes pride in being the first to have a 100% volunteered blood donors. It also pioneered in preparing blood components for nationwide use. Training of medical and paramedical professionals in the preparation and use of blood components is a continual commitment of the division to the development of health services in the Philippines.
