The department operates under the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP)- accredited training program. The program has a minimum of three (3) years basic training, these are fifteen (15) medical residents with five (5) residents per year level. It is monitored and supervised by our training officer, Dr. Michael Jaro, a PCP-fellow.

 

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

 

The Residency Training program of the Department has the following objectives:

 
  • To provide residency training program in Internal Medicine in accordance with training requirements of the PCP.
  • To provide comprehensive and well-rounded training and education in Internal Medicine.
  • To develop professional and skilled internist ready to pursue further NKTI nephrology fellowship training and other subspecialty practice.
  • To prepare the physician for opportunities in pursuing clinical and basic research.
  • To provide quality medical care to all the patients of NKTI.
  • To help provide competent internists and specialists to local areas where their expertise and service are needed.
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The residency training program consists of rotations through the private and service wards, subspecialty sections, academic conferences, hospital duties, assignment to the OPD, intensive care units, emergency room and other affiliated services.

Medical care and welfare of patients is their primary responsibility and takes precedence over all other responsibilities and must be properly endorsed if cannot be attended to. The Department provides medical support services for the transplant program of the institute.

Submission of application requirements is usually entertained in the mid-August of the year. The following are basic requirements for application:

g. PRC License Card (front and back)
h. BLS and ACLS Certificate
4. Essay (200-300 words for each questions, typewritten)
a. How do you see yourself ten years from now?
b. What are your reasons for pursuing IM residency?
