Blood Donor Recruitment Section is an integral part of the Division of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine. It is involved in promoting voluntary blood donation as mandated under RA7719 otherwise known as the National Blood Services Act of 1994.
The section is manned by highly competent staff skilled in advocacy, donor recruitment and retention, donor selection and counseling, phlebotomy, and therapeutic bleeding. Mobile blood drives has also been initiated and conducted in various participating schools, government and private agencies, religious and socio-civic.
BDRS has been performing platelet, granulocyte and stem cell collection , as well as therapeutic plasma exchange but in year 2004, the institute has been officially designated as an Apheresis Center by the Department of Health through the National Voluntary Blood Services program.

Blood Donors Recruitment Section is involved in promoting Voluntary Blood Donation from the evaluation of potential donors to the collection of both in house and mobile blood donation procedures.
The section is manned by highly competent nurses skilled in advocacy, donor recruitment and retention, phlebotomy, donor counseling, therapeutic bleeding and in performing apheresis procedure.
Blood collection for donation can de done either through routine donation of 450 ml whole blood or by platelet apheresis using an apheresis machine. Collected blood is endorsed to the Blood Bank for further serological screening and for component processing.
